The past is the starting point for the future

Isabella Arndorfer

After working in the Internal Audit Department of a financial institution for more than 20 years, I have decided to leave my career in the financial sector and start sharing my experience with the rest of the world.

When I was an active auditor, I was trained to identify compliance and risk management issues, to write audit reports and present the final audit report to management.

Over the years, I have started to observe, learn about and decipher the hidden patterns of the world of corporate governance and organisational behaviour.

I have thus embarked on a journey to learn more about conflict management and mediation and to apply these skills in my daily professional life.

Throughout the years, I have developed approaches to make internal audit functions more effective by revising elements of traditional corporate governance structures to achieve better stakeholder value.

I have enjoyed being a trainer at seminars organised for international central bank and financial regulators in Asia and Europe presenting issues on financial regulation, internal audit and governance issues. I am also a lecturer at the University of St Gallen (Switzerland) as well as member of the MENA OECD Competitiveness Initiative striving to improve governance issues in Middle East and North African countries.

Apart from these trainer activities, I have also authored a working paper on the “Four Lines of Defense Model for Financial Institutions” and have published articles in newspapers and dedicated journals.
